MADISON — The No. 10 Wisconsin Badgers will be without an All-American candidate for their conference opener.
Redshirt senior tight end Troy Fumagalli will not play against Northwestern on Saturday due to a left leg injury, according to Wisconsin.
Fumagalli leads the team with 15 receptions for 236 yards and three receiving touchdowns, with the former walk-on and current team captain sharing honors in the latter category with sophomore wide receiver Quintez Cephus.
It’s a substantial loss for the Wisconsin offense, though there is depth at tight end with Kyle Penniston and Zander Neuville. The emergence of UW’s wide receivers in the passing game, including the likes of Cephus, Jazz Peavy, A.J. Taylor, and Danny Davis, should also help shoulder the burden of Fumagalli’s absence.
Fumagalli was not listed on Wisconsin’s injury report this week.
