Media days, team captains, and preseason honors, oh my!

Along with representing the Wisconsin Badgers in Chicago for Big Ten media days this week and being named team captains for the 2017 season, redshirt seniors and former walk-ons Troy Fumagalli and Jack Cichy earned the conference’s 2017 football preseason honors.

The Big Ten announced the two Badgers and eight other conference players on Monday morning. Five players from each of the East and West divisions were named to this list, which was put together by a media panel.

Wisconsin is one of four teams to have multiple honorees, along with Ohio State (quarterback J.T. Barrett and defensive end Tyquan Lewis), Penn State (running back Saquon Barkley and quarterback Trace McSorley), and Northwestern (safety Godwin Igwebuike and running back Justin Jackson).

Here are the 10 players, as released by the Big Ten:

East Division

  • Tegray Scales, Sr., LB, Indiana
  • J.T. Barrett, Sr., QB, Ohio State
  • Tyquan Lewis, Sr., DE, Ohio State
  • Saquon Barkley, Jr., RB, Penn State
  • Trace McSorley, Sr., QB, Penn State

West Division

  • Josey Jewell, Sr., LB, Iowa
  • Goodwin Igwebuike, Sr., S, Northwestern
  • Justin Jackson, Sr., RB, Northwestern
  • Jack Cichy, Sr., LB, Wisconsin
  • Troy Fumagalli, Sr., TE, Wisconsin

We’ll have much more on the conference meetings in Chicago throughout the week.
