Nigel Hayes says he was invited to New York Knicks mini-camp

Hayes for (more) Days.

More good news appears to be on the way for former Wisconsin Badgers basketball standout Nigel Hayes.

Hayes told WTVG in Toledo on Friday that he was invited to the New York Knicks’ mini-camp. The former Badgers forward played on the Knicks’ NBA Summer League team earlier this month.

In five games for the Knicks in Orlando, Hayes averaged 15.4 minutes, 5.2 points, and five rebounds while shooting 41.4 percent from the field. He scored 13 points on 6-of-12 shooting with six rebounds and three assists in 23 minutes during the team’s final summer league contest, a 91-72 victory over the Miami Heat.

“Summer league went pretty well for me,” Hayes told the ABC affiliate. “I played well the last two games, well enough to be invited back to the rookie mini camp, so now i’m going out to New York early tomorrow. And then I’ll be out there for two weeks with a chance to make the roster and be a part of the team.

“It’s something I’ve always told me family. Even though I didn’t get drafted, with my hard work and dedication, the way that I can play and what I can show, that things will always work out and it’s starting to happen right now.”
