On Tuesday, ESPN released its World Fame 100 list, which based on a “formula that combines endorsements with social media following and internet search popularity” determines the most famous athletes in the world.
Two former Wisconsin Badgers crack the list: Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson and Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt at Nos. 55 and 74, respectively. Neither is really a surprise considering their presences on and off the field, especially with the number of fans following both on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.
- Facebook: Watt nearly 1.9 million, Wilson nearly 2.3 million
- Twitter: Watt 3.46 million, Wilson 3.65 million
- Instagram: Watt 2.6 million, Wilson 3 million
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is No. 56 on the list, with soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo No. 1 and LeBron James No. 2.
Wednesday’s Badger Bits
Google Trends released a map of the most misspelled words in America. At first, the notion was that Wisconsinites cannot spell... “Wisconsin.”

A few former Badgers chimed in:

Alas, our friends at the Journal Sentinel got to the bottom of this strange, strange mess:
Turns out Wisconsinites have trouble spelling 'tomorrow' and not the name of their own state. https://t.co/fdbIM5MRLz

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- There’s lots of recruiting news we’ll dive into later with a separate post, but the Badgers have offered California running back Demetrious Flowers and cornerback Alexander Smith, along with Hawaii offensive/defensive lineman Aaron Faumui and current Kentucky commit Marvin Alexander Jr.
