The Washington Redskins announced on Friday night the promotion of former Wisconsin Badgers running back Dare Ogunbowale from the practice squad to the active roster.

Ogunbowale has bounced around the NFL on a few teams’ practice squads after not being selected in the 2017 NFL Draft. He recently signed with the Redskins onto their practice squad on Dec. 12, but had also been with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this month for about a week after initially starting his professional football journey with the Houston Texans.

The former Wisconsin standout worked his way up from an unknown walk-on cornerback during the 2012 season to a team captain in 2016 and significant contributor on offense his final two years in Madison after moving to running back. He played in 49 games as a Badger, accumulating 1,518 yards and 13 rushing touchdowns.

Ogunbowale joins the likes of former teammates Rick Wagner, Jared Abbrederis, Joe Schobert, and Alex Erickson as Wisconsin walk-ons who have earned NFL active roster spots.

Washington (6–8) takes on the Denver Broncos at home on Sunday (1 p.m. CT, CBS).
