No. 1 Wisconsin women’s hockey completes sweep of Minnesota State

The Badgers defeated the Mavericks in Mankato.

No. 1 Wisconsin women’s hockey keeps on rolling.

The Badgers (8–0–0 overall, 2–0–0 WCHA) completed a road sweep at Minnesota State (1–4–1 overall, 0–2–0 WCHA) on Saturday, defeating the Mavericks 3–1 in Mankato.

Three different Badgers scored goals in the win. Redshirt senior forward Claudia Kepler got Wisconsin on board late in the first period. It was her third goal in three games.

Freshman forward Brette Pettet tacked on a second goal for the Badgers just a minute-and-a-half later. The goal was Pettet’s first since her hat trick against Mercyhurst in late September. Minnesota State later cut the lead to 2–1 late in the first period.

It remained that way until sophomore defender Maddie Rowe scored her first goal of 2017–18 in the third, giving Wisconsin a critical insurance goal late in the period to seal the victory.

Redshirt sophomore goaltender Kristen Campbell had 15 saves in the win. The North Dakota transfer has only allowed seven goals in Wisconsin’s eight games, posting a 0.88 GAA and .951 SV% on the season.

Next up, Wisconsin gets Bemidji State at home on Friday and Saturday. Puck drops at LaBahn Arena for both games at 7 p.m.
