Corey Clement, Vince Biegel go through first day of Senior Bowl practices

The former Badgers stars took their first shot at impressing NFL scouts.

MOBILE, Ala. — Former Wisconsin Badgers teammates (weird to say) Corey Clement and Vince Biegel auditioned for NFL scouts at the Senior Bowl’s first day of practice on Tuesday.

Clement took first-team reps at tailback for the North squad and overall looked pretty impressive. He measured in this morning at 5’10 1/4” and 221 pounds with little fat to trim.

Clement, who rushed for 1,375 yards and 15 touchdowns in 2016, needs to show scouts that he can not only take what’s blocked for him, but also create on runs that are blown up. Tuesday’s practice was a bit light without leg pads, but Clement fared well. For a physical runner like himself, Wednesday’s practice should be a bit more telling.

Vince Biegel, moving from his 3-4 outside linebacker role in the Badgers’ defense, is playing off of the ball more here in Mobile. He’s running with the second-team defense for the time being and his athleticism is getting him noticed. He demolished a couple of tight ends in pass-protection drills and performed OK in 1-on-1s vs the o-line. He was beat by Western Michigan’s Taylor Moton and USC’s Zach Banner.

Biegel’s athleticism and willingness to work hard and adapt to a different scheme will serve him well. Wednesday should help him with the physicality of practice about to pick up in quick order.
