MADISON — Wisconsin tight end Troy Fumagalli and running back Taiwan Deal were injured during Saturday’s win against Georgia State.

Both suffered right leg injuries in the first quarter. Fumagalli was ruled out quickly, while Deal was initially ruled questionable to return. The Badgers survived an upset attempt by the Panthers with a 23-17 win at Camp Randall Stadium.

Fumagalli extended out to catch a nice 11-yard pass from redshirt senior Bart Houston on Wisconsin’s first drive of the game. Combinations of Eric Steffes, Kyle Penniston and Zander Neuville were utilized in the redshirt junior’s place.

Deal looked impressive in that drive as well, carrying seven times for 34 yards. The series ended with junior kicker Rafael Gaglianone’s 41-yard field goal. Dare Ogunbowale and Bradrick Shaw received carries in the backfield, which was already missing senior Corey Clement due to an ankle injury.

Wisconsin head coach Paul Chryst did not provide a detailed injury update after the game.

“Not quite sure on Fum and Taiwan,” he said. “Corey, [we] took him in and did a pretty good workout this morning, seeing if he can go today. I think all three of them, you know, you’re optimistic, but we don’t know. I don't know.”
