Wisconsin guard George Panos no longer with team due to injury

A right shoulder injury seems to have ended the career of a once-promising recruit.

After dealing with a right shoulder injury that was severe enough to take him off the 105-man fall camp roster, offensive guard George Panos is no longer with the team, a Wisconsin official confirmed to Madison.com on Saturday.

The redshirt sophomore came into Madison as one of Bret Bielema’s last gifts to the program. Panos was a Scout and 247Sports four-star prospect who came to UW with offers from major programs across the country. He struggled to gain traction on the Badgers' depth chart through the coaching changes to the Paul Chryst era, only appearing in games against Miami (Ohio) and Northwestern last season. Panos also dealt with an injury to his left shoulder during spring practice which slowed his progress.

The Badgers are working to get him placed as a medical non-counter, which would allow him to keep his financial aid but not count against the 85-man scholarship limit.

Panos is the son of Joe Panos, one of the first great offensive linemen of the Barry Alvarez era.
