A week away from their 2016 season opener against LSU at Lambeau Field, the Wisconsin Badgers received good recruiting news.

River Rouge, Mich., safety Reggie Pearson verbally committed to UW on Saturday evening, announcing his decision via Twitter. Scout.com’s Allen Trieu first reported Pearson's commitment.

Pearson is the Badgers' first commitment for the class of 2018.

Pearson was named first-team all-state in Michigan as a sophomore. According to his Hudl profile, he recorded 77 tackles, two interceptions, nine pass deflections and scored two touchdowns in 2015.

Watching his highlights, Pearson shows a willingness to attack and tackle the ball carrier around the line of scrimmage. He also patrols the defensive backfield, breaking up passes while stepping up to make a big hit when needed.

Pearson also excels in the classroom, boasting a 4.0 GPA.

The three-star prospect also held offers from Syracuse, Iowa State and many MAC schools. Pearson visited Madison back in May and was offered by Wisconsin on May 26.
