Wisconsin football recruiting: WR Cade Green commits to Badgers

The Badgers land a receiver that was super productive in a big Texas conference.

The first targets for touted quarterback commit Jack Coan have come in within minutes of each other on Thursday, as the Badgers have picked up a commitment from Austin (Lake Travis), Texas, wide receiver Cody Green within an hour of landing Madison (Memorial), Wis., tight end Jake Ferguson.

Yes, Green is a two-star prospect according to 247Sports, and yes, star rankings do matter. But the 5'11, 185-pound Green is definitely a case where the Badgers can get a prospect that surpasses their pedigree. For one thing, he was super productive in one of the highest divisions of Texas football, putting up a line of 72 receptions, 1,172 yards and 14 touchdowns for a team that made it to the 6A Division Two championship game. He also has a Hudl profile that shows he gets to top speed quickly and has soft hands and quality route running. The Hudl profile has a reported 4.43-second 40-yard dash, which might be tweaked slightly upwards, but either way he does have quality agility that allows him to play fast.

Recent history has been kind to the Badgers when they've managed to land a two-star prospect from the Lone Star State. Inside linebacker Chris Orr was a true-freshman starter that began his career as a two-star prospect out of Desoto, and cornerback Caesar Williams is a two-star cornerback from Grand Prairie who falls under the sleeper phylum. Green is definitely going to be interesting to watch going into his senior high school season.

Green, who was committed to Air Force to play Lacrosse, had a fast recruiting process with Wisconsin, committing two weeks after his initial offer on March 17. He also had other football offers from Bowling Green, Illinois, North Texas, Texas State and Pennsylvania.
