The assistant coaching carousel officially begins anew, as the Wisconsin Badgers have lost defensive backs coach Daronte Jones to the Miami Dolphins, the Dolphins confirmed Saturday via Twitter.
This marks a meteoric rise for Jones, as at this point two seasons ago, he was the defensive backs coach in Hawaii. At Wisconsin this season, he helped the Badgers shut down opponents through the air to the tune of 173.2 yards per game and 66 passes defensed. He also helped Sojourn Shelton return to form and give the Badgers a fine pass defense with Darius Hillary and Tanner McEvoy.
On the recruiting front, Jones helped the Badgers gain a foothold in Maryland, allowing the Badgers to land four-star safety Eric Burrell from Owings Mills and Patrick Johnson from Potomac.
Jones follow defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, who left for the same position at LSU, as assistants who left for new positions this offseason.
