Wisconsin football: Badgers react to Dave Aranda leaving for LSU

A number of Wisconsin players took to Twitter to react to the news of defensive coordinator Dave Aranda leaving for LSU.

The Wisconsin Badgers will begin the search for another defensive coordinator, as LSU hired away Dave Aranda to the same position Friday night.

The Tigers announced their hiring after Badgers fans thought Aranda might stay in Madison at least for another season after many of college football's previously vacant defensive coordinator jobs were filled. Yet after losing Kevin Steele to Auburn earlier this week, LSU made a quick move in pulling Aranda from Wisconsin.

Aranda transitioned the Badgers' defense to a base 3-4 scheme upon his arrival and cemented a legacy in his three years. Heading into the 2015 Holiday Bowl, Aranda's defenses allowed an average of 16.9 points per game since the 2013 season -- second-best in the nation behind Alabama. The Badgers have also allowed only 289.4 yards per game, which leads the nation. This season alone, Wisconsin has only given up 13.7 points per game -- second-best in the nation behind Alabama -- and only 268.5 yards per game, No. 3 in the nation.

We'll have much more on Aranda's departure and how it fits into the seemingly never-ending storyline of Wisconsin's inability to hold onto assistants. One aspect that immediately jumped out to observers upon hearing of Aranda's departure was the number of Wisconsin players who took to Twitter to react. The great majority were overwhelmingly positive and grateful for Aranda's tutelage; a few took on the "a coach is just a coach" or "we're still focused on beating LSU" vibe. Of course, Wisconsin plays LSU at Lambeau Field to open next season. What a game that will be (as if the college football world wasn't already highly anticipating it).
