Wisconsin football: T.J. Edwards fully returns to practice, quarterbacks play well Friday

One-half of the projected starting linebackers returned Friday, and Joel Stave continues to throw well.

Slowly but surely, some of the Wisconsin Badgers' injured players at key positions are coming back to practice.

A day after practicing in a no-contact jersey, redshirt freshman inside linebacker T.J. Edwards fully returned to practice with the first-team defense on Friday and as the Wisconsin State Journal's Jason Galloway wrote, played alongside true freshman Chris Orr. BadgerNation.com's Ben Worgull has more on Edwards' return and the depth of the inside linebackers ($).

Junior Leon Jacobs appears to be continuing his way back to the field, though he did not practice with the team.

Quarterbacks playing well

I noted during yesterday's recap that redshirt senior quarterback Joel Stave looks sharper this fall camp. ESPN Wisconsin's Zach Heilprin and a couple of other reporters noted the same on Friday. Per Heilprin:

For a second straight day, quarterback Joel Stave let it rip. Twice in team situations, the senior threw with anticipation, getting the ball out before the wide receiver had even made his move. And both times the ball arrived just as they got their head around. One went to Tanner McEvoy for a first down, and the other was an out to Jazz Peavy for a nice gain. He's also getting the ball out of his hands quicker when pressure is in his face. He hit McEvoy on a quick slant for a first down when the defense came on a blitz. He's never going to be a world beater but Stave has clearly taken a step up from the last time UW played a game.

Heilprin also notes in his recap that redshirt freshman quarterback D.J. Gillins had a good day as well, connecting with sophomore wide receiver Krenwick Sanders on some nice passes towards the end of practice.
