Report: QB Austin Kafentzis leaves UW football program

247 Sports' Evan Flood reported early Friday evening true freshman quarterback Austin Kafentzis has left the Wisconsin football program.

Kafentzis did not receive many reps in spring practice, often behind Joel Stave, Bart Houston, D.J. Gillins and fellow true freshman (and early enrollee) Alex Hornibrook. Despite coming into Wisconsin with less hype, Hornibrook appeared to have jumped Kafentzis on the depth chart after performing well during spring practices.

He did end the Badgers' spring football sessions on a high note, throwing a 34-yard strike to sophomore wide receiver George Rushing in the annual spring game.

Flood noted that Badger247 learned "Kafentzis was not viewed as a quarterback by Chryst."

Kafentzis enrolled early at Wisconsin in January after reaffirming his commitment to the Badgers in late December. He left a mark on Utah preps, breaking at least 13 state records.

Best of luck to the Sandy, Utah native and his future plans.
