The top four teams ahead of the Wisconsin Badgers (21-2, 9-1 Big Ten) in the AP Top 25 poll remained unchanged, just UVA (21-1, 9-1 ACC) hopping Gonzaga (24-1, 12-0 WCC), and the top three teams ahead of UW in the Coaches Poll also stayed static. The Cavaliers, in particular, looked great last week, beating No. 12 UNC (18-6, 8-3 ACC) on the road and No. 9 Louisville (19-4, 7-3 ACC) at home.
Despite the impressive performance by the Badgers last week, pummeling Indiana (17-7, 7-4 Big Ten) by the score of 92-78 and rolling over Northwestern (10-13, 1-9 Big Ten) by 15 points, the pollsters were not impressed enough to move UW up in either of the polls. Wisconsin won both of those games while only going below 90 percent win probability for less than one minute all week. They remain at No. 5 in the AP and No. 4 in the Coaches Poll, staying in the top-10 for the 14th consecutive week.
#Badgers have been ranked in the AP top 10 for 14 consecutive weeks, equaling the longest streak in program history (also in 2006-07).— Wisconsin Basketball (@BadgerMBB) February 9, 2015
So, we've got that going for us...which is nice.
Maryland and Ohio State are the only other two Big Ten teams in the rankings this week. The Terps (19-5, 7-4 Big Ten) are ranked No. 19 in both, while the Buckeyes (18-6, 7-4 B1G) are sitting at No. 23 in the AP and No. 21 in the Coaches Poll. Iowa (15-8, 6-4 B1G) and Indiana (17-7, 7-4 B1G) both barely missed the cut of both polls and are lurking to take a spot if someone else falters.
The Badgers are at Nebraska (13-10, 5-6 Big Ten) on Tuesday night (8 pm CT, ESPN) looking to avenge last season's lost in Lincoln and then host Illinois (16-8, 6-5 Big Ten) at noon CT on Sunday.
