Wisconsin football recruiting: Aaron Maternowski commits to Wisconsin as preferred walk-on

The Slinger, Wis., native looks to be the next man up for a traditionally valuable part of Wisconsin's roster building.

On a day where former walk-on Joe Schobert accepted an invite to the preeminent post draft all-star game, the Wisconsin Badgers received news of another prospect set to walk-on as Slinger, Wis., defensive tackle Aaron Maternowski accepted a preferred walk-on offer to join the team in 2016, reports's Jon McNamara.

The 6'1, 250-pound Maternowski is set to play fullback next season, and looking at his Hudl profile, you can see his potential of becoming a really good blocking back. With a high school wrestling background, he understands leverage and has the leg drive to push people off the blocks from when he played guard in high school. He has a Sparq-verified 4.78-second 40-yard dash time and ended up finishing second in testing for the Chicago combine, adding in a 4.66-second shuttle and a 32-inch vertical jump.

Long story short? No matter where he ends up, Maternowski has the athletic bonafides to make an impact.

While he doesn't hold any scholarship offers, Maternowski also adds a family bloodline to the resume. His brother Alec is currently redshirting at Pittsburgh and his father Curt played for the Badgers during his college days.
