It was a tough pill to swallow for Wisconsin Badgers players, coaches and its fanbase after the referees overturned what would have been a game-winning, one-yard touchdown reception from redshirt senior Joel Stave to redshirt sophomore wide receiver Jazz Peavy.
Citing not completing the process of the catch, the pass was ruled incomplete. Wisconsin would have two other chances at the end zone but failed to convert, leaving the Badger faithful stunned on Senior Day with a 13-7 loss at Camp Randall Stadium.
Many current and former players, as well as media, weighed in on what appeared to be the come-from-behind, game-winning catch, then no-catch.
From the receiver himself
Dawg....... @DezBryant I feel your pain right now.. x 1,000

Easily the most frustrating game I have watched all year.

This is unreal
— Sam Dekker (@dekker) November 21, 2015
Wow what a tough way to lose it. I don't mind the hate tweets coming my way either, I'm gonna support my guys thru it all unlike some of you
— Sam Dekker (@dekker) November 21, 2015
Yo @NCAA I'm not trying to be rude but like this happens every week. Wanna know when that'll be fixed? K. Thanks. https://t.co/DU7QzsiNao

#Badgers just got ripped off at home 3 times tonight. I hope this officiating crew gets a letter on Monday.

From the media
To clarify on Jazz Peavy play, was told that steps taken after catch don't matter if you contact ground and sideline. Any bobble=incomplete
— Adam Rittenberg (@ESPNRittenberg) November 22, 2015
Got clarification on the two main replay reversal TDs in Northwestern-Wisconsin. 1) On punt return, Alex... https://t.co/syuObxivYA
— Adam Rittenberg (@ESPNRittenberg) November 22, 2015
If the Peavy catch happened outside of the end zone, would they have called it incomplete? I don't think so.
— Jason Galloway (@Jason_Galloway) November 22, 2015
Finally saw good replay of catch by #Badgers Peavy. Took 4 steps (w/control) and then down to knee in EZ. Speechless.
— Jeff Potrykus (@jaypo1961) November 22, 2015
NCAA rule says player must maintain control of ball throughout catch, even in end zone. However, doesn't say if that applies to 4th step
— Dave Heller (@dave_heller) November 22, 2015
By this rule, a player could catch a ball at far left of end zone, run all the way to the right side, lose control and not be a catch.
— Dave Heller (@dave_heller) November 22, 2015
That doesn't seem right.
— Dave Heller (@dave_heller) November 22, 2015
Agree. Strange. https://t.co/CU5A5AFbbm

Disbelieving players didn't want to take anything away from NW but they were having hard time swallowing how Jazz Peavy catch was overruled
— Mike Lucas (@LucasAtLarge) November 22, 2015
UW seniors have been tested often by adversity including gut punch at Arizona State. That experience will be valuable getting ready 4 Gophs
— Mike Lucas (@LucasAtLarge) November 22, 2015
One of these days a receiver will hand the ball to ref after a TD and they will say he didn't complete the catch.
