Wisconsin WR Alex Erickson going through concussion protocol, status TBD for Nebraska

New, comments

Needless to say, the Badgers do not want to face the Huskers without their top wide receiver.

Wisconsin wide receiver Alex Erickson is going through concussion protocol to determine his status for this Saturday's game at Nebraska, head coach Paul Chryst said on Monday.

Erickson sustained the concussion in the third quarter of the Badgers' loss to Iowa on Sunday and did not return. Unlike tight end Austin Traylor, Erickson is listed on UW's depth chart for Nebraska.

Needless to say, being without two top receiving targets against Nebraska is not what Wisconsin wants to face after the way the Iowa loss went down. Over five games, Erickson has a team-high 26 receptions for 350 yards. The next-most productive receiver on the roster: Robert Wheelwright, with 14 receptions for 180 yards. Trayloris next with 10 receptions for 156 yards; both he and Wheelwright also have three touchdowns.

Chryst promised updates on Erickson and Traylor soon. For now, it seems like a safe bet that Traylor will miss Saturday's game and Erickson's status will be decided as the week goes on.

Wisconsin opened as a one-point underdog to Nebraska and is getting between 1.5 and 2.5 points from sportsbooks on OddsShark.
