Waunakee running back Troy Laufenberg is one Wisconsin's top high school players, and now he'll be joining the Badgers next season after accepting a preferred walk-on offer.
I'm proud to announce that I have committed to the University of Wisconsin to play football! Thank every for the support! #OnWisconsin ⚪️— Troy Laufenberg (@Troy21Lauf) January 23, 2015
Laufenberg discussed his commitment with BadgerNation, via the Wisconsin State Journal:
"I am very excited to be a Badger," Laufenberg told BadgerNation. "Growing up 20 minutes away and watching the Badgers and being a Badger fan in general, so I mean just being able to be apart of it is something else. It hasn't even hit me yet, but there is not a better feeling in the world and is a dream come true."
Laufenberg is listed at 5'11, 185 lbs., according to 247Sports. He told BadgerNation that Waunakee coach Pat Rice and Paul Chryst are friends, and when Chryst was hired by UW, he had a feeling an offer could be coming. He rushed for 2,276 yards and 25 touchdowns on 363 carries this season, earning Wisconsin State Journal and WisconsinPrepZone.com Football Player of the Year honors. He also did all that without losing a fumble.
Laufenberg is a versatile player who also has experience at quarterback and kick returner. According to the State Journal, UW's staff told him he'll probably start at running back but could change positions if he doesn't fit there.
