Wisconsin Badgers news, 6/10: World Cup soccer at Camp Randall Stadium?

Soccer's on our minds with the World Cup starting Thursday. Since we're a college blog, let's infuse Camp Randall and some football talk into the subject.

Football

Outside of football games and the 1997 appearances by U2 and the Rolling Stones, there really hasn't been any type of monumental event that has taken place inside the confines of Camp Randall Stadium. If college football stadiums were to ever host a World Cup game, Camp Randall would certainly fit the bill, at least according to Land-Grant Holy Land's Brett Ludwiczak.

More from LGHL and the World Cup: What if college football took a page out of soccer's book and adapted group play? I'm not a huge soccer fan, nor do I want to pretend like I know what I'm talking about when it comes to the sport, but Matt Brown put together a group play scenario and slotted the Badgers in Group C with -- yep, you guessed it -- Arizona State, along with Alabama and Eastern Illinois.

It's always better to give than to receive: J.J. Watt is hosting his fourth annual 5K Run/Walk that will take place in Pewaukee on June 21. Proceeds for the event go toward establishing after-school opportunities for children in the surrounding areas.

Basketball

UW made the addition of two walk-ons -- Appleton Xavier's Matt Ferris and St. John's Northwestern Miltary Academy's T.J. Schlundt -- official on Monday.

Hockey

Newsday's Neil Best has a quick, but interesting article on how much fun former UW and current LA Kings play-by-play announcer Bob Miller is having this postseason, despite feeling on the "outside" because of NBC having exclusive rights for the Stanley Cup Finals.

Recruiting

Wisconsin has some new faces on its recruiting radar, and who wants to go camping!? This, along with other topics, are touched upon in our latest recruiting notebook.

Could Michigan-based center Seth Dugan be Frank Kaminsky's future replacement if head coach Bo Ryan can't secure Diamond Stone? We shall see. Nonetheless, he told this to BadgerNation about the recent courting by Ryan's staff ($):

"I have been in contact with Wisconsin. I have talked to Coach [Greg] Gard multiple times and I'll be up at camp next week. I visited last year and went around the facilities with Coach [Lamont] Paris. Coach Gard really likes my game and wants Bo to see me play at the camp and I'm very interested in Wisconsin."
