Frank Kaminsky named to All-Big Ten First Team, Nigel Hayes Sixth Man of the Year

Frank Kaminsky is an All-Big Ten First-Team selection, the conference announced Monday. Wisconsin's center joins Iowa's Roy Devyn Marble, Michigan's Nik Stauskas (also the conference's Player of the Year), Michigan State's Gary Harris and Nebraska's Terran Petteway on both the media and coaches teams.

Entering the Big Ten Tournament, Kaminsky is averaging 13.4 points, 6.4 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game. He's also shooting 52.8 percent from the floor and 40.3 percent from three-point range, both career-highs. Kaminsky was especially critical over the Badgers' last eight games, averaging 16.0 points and 7.3 rebounds per game to help Wisconsin secure the No. 2 seed in the conference.

"I'm honored that people think I'm worthy of first-team All-Big Ten and I'm happy that I'm able to contribute to the team success we're having," Kaminsky said in a statement released by the team. "When you come into the program you hear all about the great players who have come before you and made Wisconsin what it is. I'm humbled to be in that company."

Altogether, six Badgers were honored Monday. Nigel Hayes was named Sixth Man of the Year after averaging 8.0 points and 2.7 rebounds in 17.8 minutes per game.

"It's always great when you can receive an individual honor but I couldn't have done it without my teammates so I look at this as a team award," Hayes said. "Team success is always important and to be recognized as one of the conference's best reserves is an honor I will share with my teammates."

Josh Gasser was named to the All-Big Ten Defensive Team along with Ohio State's Aaron Craft (who also was named Defensive Player of the Year) and Shannon Scott, Purdue's A.J. Hammons and Harris. Sam Dekker also was a second-team selection by the coaches and a third-team pick by media.

Ben Brust, Traevon Jackson and Gasser also received honorable mention All-Big Ten honors.

The Big Ten Coach of the Year award was split between Nebraska's Tim Miles (coaches) and Michigan's John Beilein (media).

"I'm proud of our guys that were recognized and like I always say, individuals getting accolades is a reflection on the work that the whole team is doing," head coach Bo Ryan said. "I think having six players named to the list speaks to the balance of our team and the success we have had collectively."
