Sophomore goalie Ann-Renée Desbiens was named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week after posting a pair of shutouts in St. Cloud this past weekend. They were her third and fourth shutouts of the season.

Desbiens ranks in the top-10 nationally in with her .808 winning percentage and 1.52 goals-against average. This is the second time this season she's been awarded POW - she received it after a weekend shoutout sweep of Ohio State in October.

She's had an impressive start to her Wisconsin career, compiling a 21-3-1 record, with her three losses all coming to ranked opponents.

It wasn't the only honor Desbiens received today. It was announced and sophomore Sarah Nurse were named toHockey Canada’s National Development Team that will compete at the 2015 Nations Cup.

That tournament brings together the Hockey Canada Development Team and national teams from Finland, Germany, Russia, Sweden and Switzerland for a four-day international tournament, in Füssen, Germany.

The invitation for the two Badgers comes on the heels of their participation in the Hockey Canada Fall Festival and a series of games vs The U.S. National U-22 Team.

Nurse, who missed the second game of the St. Cloud series with an undisclosed injury but is expected to return to the ice this weekend in New Hampshire, has seven goals this season, which is tied for second on the team. She has been particularly potent on the power play, tallying three of her goals with the extra attacker.
