As expected, Milwaukee Dominican star center Diamond Stone visited Wisconsin for Saturday's Homecoming win over Maryland. If you want hot takes as to the results of the visit, you can check out the comments here. If you're like me and prefer to cling to the fragile sanity afforded to us as UW sports fans, let's just wait until the top-ranked player in the class of 2015 announces his decision.
Well, when will that be? Fair question. Nov. 12 has been mentioned as a possible decision date, but the latest update from Badger247 ($) suggests Stone will look hard at his final candidates before making a choice. UConn is widely considered the other favorite alongside Wisconsin, and Stone will visit Storrs this weekend. Oklahoma State and Maryland round out his top four; he visited both earlier this month.
It's been tough to find many other updates of substance, especially of the non-paywalled variety. The pricy stuff doesn't really glean much insight, anyway. Stone is playing this close to the vest, as is his right for such a major decision. For what it's worth, 247Sports' Crystal Ball predictions lean 48 percent toward UConn with 28 percent to Wisconsin. Four of the six picks made this month are UConn.
Expect to hear more updates after Stone's visit to the Huskies this weekend. Also expect the waiting game to continue a bit longer.
KenPom ranks Badgers No. 6
It's KenPom season, y'all. If you want to be the smartest college basketball fan on your block, subscribe. Because KenPom filters out things like "Wisconsin basketball is boring," his rankings have traditionally been friendly toward the Badgers.
In his initial 2014-15 rankings released Monday, Wisconsin slides in at No. 6. Most preseason polls have Wisconsin somewhere in the top five -- ESPN has UW No. 3, for instance -- but these are all just essentially meaningless anyway (take that, Ken!).
Here's KenPom's top 10; you can view the full rankings for free on his site.
