2014 Heisman Trophy odds: Dak Prescott, Marcus Mariota lead the pack

After another productive week (and the suspension of Georgia's Todd Gurley), Melvin Gordon jumps in the latest Heisman odds from Bovada.

Mississippi State quarterback Dak Prescott and Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota are the favorites in the latest Heisman Trophy odds released by Bovada on Tuesday. Next up are three players all at 11/2 odds: Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty, Notre Dame quarterback Everett Golson and Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon.

Prescott, whose Bulldogs took down Auburn on Saturday, wasn't great through the air in going 18-of-34 for 246 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions, though he did add 121 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 21 attempts. Mariota led Oregon back onto the winning track after last week's stunning loss to Arizona, going 17-of-27 for 210 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for 75 yards and two more touchdowns in a win at UCLA.

Gordon, meanwhile, joins Petty and Golson in third place after taking 27 carries for 175 yards and four touchdowns in Wisconsin's win over Illinois. He also benefits from the suspension of Georgia running back Todd Gurley for allegedly receiving money for signing autographs. Gordon is now the only non-quarterback in the top eight of Bovada's odds; Nebraska running back Ameer Abdullah is ninth after dropping to 25/1.

Elsewhere, Gordon jumped to third in both ESPN.com's latest Heisman Watch and CBSSports.com's consensus Heisman rankingsSB Nation's Andy Hutchins considers Gordon part of the "second pack" of Heisman contenders, and he nicely sums up Gordon's paradoxical candidacy at this point:

Gordon's odds just keep falling as his numbers keep stacking. But he's right where he'll stay without shakeups or a deviation from his sick statistical pace: at the back of the pack of chasers.
