For National Signing Day, one of the watchwords was just how well Gary Andersen's managed to keep the 2013 recruiting class together. Outside of Tyler Foreman, there really wasn't any decommit that wasn't replaced with someone of equal or greater value. But as the clock ticked down to Marcus Ball's 2 p.m. press conference, the question was whether he would be the final piece of the puzzle or he to the sun-soaked climate of Tempe.
Well, the late chatter that he was changing his mind turned out to be true, and Marcus Ball's going out west to join the Sun Devils. It definitely adds value to Donnell Vercher's signing, as the safety position is one that promises to be wide open for the upcoming season. And for the Sun Devils? They'll be getting a very good athlete coming their way in 2013.
As for Ball's scholarship, Andersen has said that just because signing day is over doesn't mean that we won't stop looking for someone. Wide receiver has been a position that Andersen was looking to add another player at, making late charges for both Jeff Badet and Johnny Holton, as well as for a third scholarship to add to Jazz Peavy and Rob Wheelwright.
