And now, we have a full-fledged controversy.
Multiple sources on Monday have reported that Tanner McEvoy, a junior college quarterback out of Arizona Western via South Carolina, has decided to commit to the Badgers. The Badgers have beaten out Florida, Oregon and West Virginia for his services. McEvoy had a great visit to Wisconsin, even despite the fact that the weather didn't cooperate for it. He went to his Florida visit this weekend, and decided to commit to the Badgers today. McEvoy will be eligible for three seasons when he comes to Madison.
As for the quarterback situation? This makes a mess and a very interesting situation for the April 20 spring game. Joel Stave isn't the favorite to start anymore. Bart Houston and Curt Phillips aren't on the outside looking in. Someone's going to come out of this as the spring as the top contender, but as this quote says...
"They seemed pretty relieved," McEvoy said. "We've stayed in pretty close contact. I could tell that they were waiting. They definitely seemed really relieved."
When summer rolls around? The race begins again.
