Hi. It's another two-question day at #AskB5Q. It's a little bit of update, and a little bit of prognostication. Let's get it started with a visit from Drew at UW Badgers Nation.
@B5Q @thegnc Have you heard anything on the development on Adeyanju, J Hayes and Hugs Etienne? Thought they'd all be seeing the field by now
— Drew (@UWBadgersNation) October 25, 2013
Unfortunately, it looks as if James Adeyanju and Hugs Etienne are players that slipped through the cracks with the Badgers' new defense. Adeyanju's being listed at 6'2 and 265 pounds means he's too small to be at defensive end and he's too slow to keep up with the linebackers the Badgers have been recruiting. Etienne's fallen behind the backup cornerbacks from the last recruiting class (Jakarrie Washington and T.J. Reynard).
As for Jesse Hayes, the Badgers do have an opening for him to emerge in the next couple of seasons. The Badgers lose four linebackers in the 2014 depth chart. Derek Landisch and Marcus Trotter are gone in 2015. This is why you're seeing the Badgers having multiple interests in junior college linebackers like Erroll Clarke and Richard Dorvilus, but the thing of it is? Hayes will get just as much of a chance.
The next question comes from a returning champion in Kyle Ashauer.
@B5Q @thegnc Is it really a stretch to say that Wisconsin could have 2 first-round picks come April?
— Kyle Ashauer (@KyleAshauer) October 25, 2013
Short answer is that unless Melvin Gordon exits for the draft, a second first-round pick will be a surprise.
In fact, the Badgers might not even get one. Sure, they're likely to dot the weekend with plenty of picks (I can see six Badgers getting drafted off the top of my head), but the fact remains people are going to pass on Chris Borland for the same dumb reason they passed on Russell Wilson. Also, odds are Jared Abbrederis is not going to have that 40-time that is going to make people swoon. And as such, their talent is going to be higher than their draft position.
Is it lame? Yeah. The NFL combine and those processes are pretty stupid. But when they get an opportunity, they'll get a chance to make their coaching staffs and general managers look good.
So that's it for this week's #AskB5Q. Next week, get all your horse questions ready. It's going to be an Iowa mailbag.
