Wisconsin announced via Twitter yesterday that the basketball team will get another walk-on for the spring semester in sophomore guard Aaron Irving:
#Badgers welcome a new walk-on to the team. Los Angeles native, soph. G Aaron Irving (6-1, 164 lbs) will participate in 1st practice today.
— Patrick Herb (@BadgerMBB) January 4, 2013
Now, this Cali product may or may not be the same Aaron Irving who hooped at Millikan High School in Long Beach, averaging 13 ppg as a senior in 2010-'11. But it is completely believable that Irving's height would be embellished by his high school team. He was listed bigger -- at 6'4", 172 lbs -- on his MaxPreps profile.
The addition of Irving pushes the size of Wisconsin's roster back to 17, including the injured Josh Gasser and Duje Dukan (redshirt). In recent years, Bo Ryan has liked to maintain a 17-man roster even though there are restrictions limiting the number of players who can travel for road games. Thanks to holding over two scholarships (given to preferred walk-ons Zach Bohannon and Zak Showalter) this season, the team had room for Irving.
