After a typical slow start in the first edition of the 2013 Hoops Border Battle, Wisconsin and Minnesota carry a 24-24 tie into the halftime break.
Neither team was able to find the inside for the first 10 minutes, with each team scoring its first nine points on three-pointers -- it took 8:55 for Minnesota to score its first two-pointer; Wisconsin didn't score their own first two until 11:07 into the game.
Andre Hollins powered the Minnesota attack, scoring 11 points on 3-of-7 shooting. He knocked down two three-pointers and drilled three free throws after an ill-advised George Marshall foul with 0.2 seconds left on the clock. Maverick Ahanmisi has been a spark plug off the bench for the Gophers, knocking down two three-pointers in just seven minutes.
Ryan Evans and Sam Dekker have done the heavy lifting for Wisconsin. After a horrible 2-of-12 shooting performance against Michigan State, Evans has eight points on 3-of-4 shooting (2-of-2 at the line). Dekker's presence opened up the Badgers offense, as he hit two three-pointers and a long two to tie Evans with eight points, the team-high.
The two Minnesotans in the Badgers starting lineup, Jared Berggren and Mike Bruesewitz, have been largely absent. Berggren is scoreless on three shots (two three-pointers), and Bruesewitz missed his only attempt, a three-pointer. The pair has just four rebounds and a turnover to their names in the statsheet.
