Wednesday night we reported that Wisconsin hockey season ticket holders were sent an e-mail saying that they had the opportunity to buy tickets to the Hockey City Classic for $65 or $75 depending on a variety of factors decided by the UW athletic department.
Obviously, we were stunned. It would have been a slap in the face to expect all fans interested in attending the double-header featuring Wisconsin, Minnesota, Miami and Notre Dame to pay that amount.
After getting in contact with Intersport, who is organizing the event, we've learned that there will be additional price points that fans can choose from to attend the event.
Lauren Price, the director of communications for Intersport noted in an e-mail this afternoon, "Hockey City Classic tickets are ranging from $15-$85 and the ticket is good for both games."
Price also added that more than 60% of the 60,000 seats will be priced at $40 or less.
So the e-mail that the UW Athletic Department sent out wasn't wrong, it was just kind of shady. In my opinion it's probably not fair business practice to only tell your season ticket holders there are two price points that they can use to purchase tickets, and not include the info that there will be cheaper options available for them later.
But that's just my humble opinion.
We've also learned the game times for the double-header. The first game will pit Miami vs Notre Dame starting at noon on February 17th. Wisconsin and Minnesota will take the ice shortly after, with an expected start time of 3:30. All game times are central time.
Individual tickets for the Hockey City Classic will go on sale to the general public at 10 a.m. CT on Monday, Oct. 1. Tickets are valid for both games and may be purchased at Ticketmaster.com, by calling 1-800-745-3000 or at Ticketmaster outlets.
Stakeholders of each university and Chicago Bears season ticket holders will be contacted by their respective organizations regarding presale opportunities. Group tickets of 20 or more will become available in September. To be notified when group tickets are available, register at hockeycityclassic.com.
