Zone, zone, zone. Wisconsin has seen zone defense several times this season -- whether it be a 1-3-1 look from Northwestern, or 2-3 stretches from BYU, Penn State, Illinois, Montana, or Vanderbilt. The results have been mixed, but tonight the Badgers face a Syracuse program that has nearly perfected the style.
There will be opportunities to exploit the Orange to be sure. Offensive rebounding is the main area. It will be interesting to see if Wisconsin crashes the boards more today or if they remain focused on stopping Syracuse in transition -- since the Orange fancy themselves as the best running team in the country, mostly off one of their 16.4 turnovers forced per game. Mike Bruesewitz can have a big game creating second chances. For what it's worth, I think Wisconsin will have 13 or fewer turnovers.
Offensively, Jordan Taylor must find Ryan Evans in the short corner pocket to stick some early jumpers. The free throw line will be open as well, so Jared Berggren has a great opportunity as well. He may need a few shot fakes in there. Draw some fouls big man!
