WISCruiting: The Recruits Respond

After the departure of coach Bielema to Arkansas, will some of his recruits go with him?

Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE

As most of you know from either social media, ESPN, or following this site, Bret Bielema has decided to leave Wisconsin following the dominant win over No. 12 Nebraska in Saturday's B1G Ten Championship Game. The obvious concern is about the team’s game in the Rose Bowl against Stanford, and also who the coach is going forward. Another principal concern, though, is how Bielema will leave Wisconsin's 2013 recruiting class and beyond.

RB Corey Clement (Class of 2013): 5-foot-11, 205 lbs. – Glassboro, NJ

On Nov. 2, Clement made a commitment to head to Madison next year, after his visit on October 19th.

Tuesday night, before a visit by Coach Thomas Hammock, Clement tweeted this:

Later on last night he posted this, as well:

It’s safe to say that ,at least according to early reports, Clement is still planning on joining the Badgers' backfield in 2013.

Safety Tyler Foreman (Class of 2013): 6-foot-2, 190 lbs. – Encino, CA

On Nov. 20, Foreman made a commitment to head to Madison next year, after his visit on October 26th.

A Wisconsin assistant coach was meeting with Foreman when news broke there was a coaching change about to take place. A story posted on an LA Times blog indicates that Foreman is now having doubts about coming to Wisconsin due to the coaching change. UCLA was always in the running for Foreman, and now it appears the Bruins may be back in contention with their program's rapid turnaround under head coach Jim Mora and the uncertainty that lies in Madison. If Foreman decides to change his mind about his decision to become a Badger, it would be a huge loss to the defense's future.

OLB Austin Ramesh (Class of 2013): 6-foot-2, 215 lbs. – Eagle River, WI

On March 25, Ramesh made a commitment to head to Madison next season.

Regarding the coaching change, Ramesh told Evan Flood of 247sports.com, "It's not changing my decision. I don't like how or when he did, but I made my decision based on the Badgers tradition and the coaches that I became closer to."

CB Sojourn Shelton (Class of 2013): 5-foot-10, 160 lbs. – Plantation, FL

On Oct. 9, 2012 Shelton made a commitment to head to Madison next season after his official visit on August 31st.

Shelton, who has been the busiest of the group on Twitter on Wednesday, apparently made clear that he is sticking with Wisconsin with this tweet:

After this visit from one of the Wisconsin coaches, Shelton's mother tweeted this,

OT Jackson Keeler (Class of 2013): 6-foot-7, 290 lbs. – Barrington, IL

On May 2, Keeler made a commitment to head to Madison next season. His official visit is scheduled to take place this weekend.

Keeler told Evan Flood of 247sports.com in reaction to the coaching change at Wisconsin, "Shocked. We're taking our official after this weekend and we'll decide after that."

SDE Matt Miller (Class of 2013): 6-foot-5, 260 lbs. – Perrysburg, Ohio

On June 27 Miller made a commitment to head to Madison next season. His official visit is scheduled to take place this weekend.

Miller told Steve Wiltfong of 247sports.com in reaction to the coaching change at Wisconsin, "I just talked to some of the coaches this morning. I’m going on my official this weekend. I’m still very excited about the Wisconsin opportunity that I have. I don’t know any of the stuff. It just kind of hit me."

S Tiquention Coleman (Junior College Transfer): 5-foot-10, 200 lbs. – Milledgeville, GA

On Nov. 18, Coleman made a commitment to head to Madison next season. His official visit was on Nov. 16.

Coleman told Evan Flood of 247sports.com in reaction to the coaching change at Wisconsin, "Woah that's crazy. I don't really know right now. He was a big part of me committing. I'll call them and we'll see."

It will be interesting to see if Coleman keeps his commitment to Wisconsin, or whether he will be in contact with Bielema to see if there is an opportunity for him in Arkansas.

DT Sam Raridon (Class of 2013): 6-foot-2, 256 lbs. - West Des Moines, Iowa

On June 25, Raridon made a commitment to join the Badgers next year.

Raridon told Evan Flood of 247sports.com in reaction to the coaching change for Wisconsin, "A little disappointed. Coach Bielema seemed like a great man to work for. I am still 100 percent committed to Wisconsin."

WR Jazz Peavy (Class of 2013): 6-foot-1, 175 lbs. – Kenosha, WI

On June 17, Peavy made a commitment to join the Badgers next season. His official visit took place on Nov. 16.

Jazz Peavy made it quite clear to Wisconsin fans that his commitment has not changed despite the coaching change that took place on Tuesday.

TE Troy Fumagalli (Class of 2013): 6-foot-5, 215 lbs. – Aurora, IL

On Sept. 12, Fumagalli made a commitment to go to Wisconsin next season. His official visit is scheduled to take place this weekend.

In an article featured last night by Blake Baumgartner of the Sun-Times , Fumagatti said that it was a "huge surprise that Bielema left." The positives are that he is still planning on making his visit this weekend, but the negatives are that there are offers on the table from Illinois and Minnesota. This weekend’s visit will be important to try to minimize the damage and keep him as a member of the Badgers next season.

Any commitments not listed above have not made any statements at this time regarding their decision to play for Wisconsin next year.
