Report: Joel Stave Out For Season With Broken Collarbone

New, 7 comments

The blows just keep on coming. Not long after Wisconsin lost its homecoming game in overtime to Michigan State and men's basketball point guard to a season-ending torn ACL, reports indicate starting quarterback Joel Stave broke his collarbone in the loss on Saturday and will miss the rest of the season.

WKOW Sports Director Jake Zimmermann Tweeted Saturday night that he had confirmed with Stave's family the injury is season-ending. The redshirt freshman quarterback was in the middle of perhaps his best game as a Badger, having completed 9-of-11 passes for 127 yards and one touchdown. Stave appeared to be favoring his left shoulder after a hard hit from MSU defensive lineman William Gholston on the first series of the third quarter, and the team only announced he had a left shoulder injury and would not return.

Zimmermann also reports Stave won't have surgery and expects to return for spring practice. This is now Stave's third broken collarbone, and per Zimmermann, he knew it was broken immediately after the hit.

Zimmermann also has a source saying Stave could possibly return for a bowl game, though doctors "don't think it's worth the risk."
