The Hobey Baker Award's popular fan voting phase has opened, and Wisconsin junior defenseman Justin Schultz and sophomore forward Mark Zengerle have been listed as nominees.
The Hobey is awarded annually to the top player in college hockey. Wisconsin's Blake Geoffrion won the award in 2010.
Schultz (West Kelowna, British Columbia) leads all defensemen in the nation in scoring. His 32 points through 20 games ranks him 4th overall nationally. Schultz, who was a top 10 finalist for the award last season has been on the ice for 67% of the goals Wisconsin has scored this season.
Zengerle (Rochester, New York) is currently riding a 19 game point streak. Zengerle is currently only two games behind head coach Mike Eaves record of 21 straight games. The sophomore centerman leads the country in assists with 23 and is fifth in the nation in scoring with 31 points in 20 games.
