Badgers ranked No. 11 by Sports Illustrated

New, 9 comments

The pre-season accolades continue to roll in for the Wisconsin Badgers, who were ranked No. 11 by Sports Illustrated today. That ranking is consistent with other national polls, where the Badgers have found themselves either just making the Top 10 or just missing the cut. You can check out an abbreviated team preview from SI by clicking here.

In a release, SI predicted that the Badgers would go 10-2 in 2011, with a 6-2 record in Big Ten play. That record was good enough for first place in the Leaders division, and a date with Nebraska (and a predicted loss) in the inaugural Big Ten Championship Game. The Badgers are ranked just below the Cornhuskers (who check in at No. 9,) but above Michigan State (No. 13) and Ohio State (No. 19.)

SI lists three key players for the Badgers this season: sophomore linebacker Chris Borland, new quarterback Russell Wilson, and center Peter Konz. Good years from all three players would definitely go a long way towards defending the Badgers' 2010 Big Ten title.

How about it, Badger fans? Is No. 11 a fair ranking for the Badgers? Let us know in the comments!
