For the second time this season, fans who will be attending this weekends WCHA series at the Kohl Center will be treated to a team ranked #1 in the country.
It was announced Monday afternoon that Wisconsin's opponent this weekend, the Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs are ranked #1 in both the USCHO.com and the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine polls.
Earlier in the season Wisconsin hosted then ranked #1 Minnesota, and proceeded to knock off the top ranked Golden Gophers on Friday night. Minnesota got the best of the Badgers on Saturday, and are currently ranked #2 in both major polls. Wisconsin remains un-ranked.
Last season Minnesota-Duluth also traveled to Madison as the top ranked team in the country. In that series, the Bulldogs were able to win a pair of overtime games against Badgers. That series was not without controversy though, as Wisconsin lost one of the games when a blatant non-called trip led directly to the UMD game winner.
This series will feature a number of elite college hockey prospects including a pair of favorites to contend for the Hobey Baker. Wisconsin's Justin Schultz, and Minnesota-Duluth's Jack Connolly are tied for third in the country in scoring. Each have notched 25 points through 16 games this season.
Friday nights game will start at 7 PM and can been seen on the Big Ten Network. Saturdays start time is 8 PM, and can be seen on TVW, & will be rebroadcast on the Wisconsin Channel.
