Report: Dayne Crist to visit Wisconsin this week

Former Notre Dame quarterback Dayne Crist will visit Wisconsin by the end of the week, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Crist has been granted his release by the Irish and will have one year of eligibility remaining. Like Russell Wilson, he won't have to sit out a season because he will graduate from Notre Dame this month.

Crist visited Kansas last weekend where Charlie Weis, his former head coach and recruiter at Notre Dame, is now in charge.

According to the report, Crist will also visit Delaware, an FCS school, this week before checking out Madison.

With Jon Budmayr and Curt Phillips currently recovering from serious injuries, Wisconsin's quarterback situation for 2012 is very unclear. If Crist joined the Badgers, he would likely become the team's most talented and experienced quarterback on the roster right away.

Coming out of high school, Crist was one of the most highly regarded quarterbacks in the country but he suffered knee injuries in 2009 and 2010, hindering a once promising career. He battled back to win the starting job this season, but was benched in favor of Tommy Rees mid-way through the first game of the season.

It's important to realize that we aren't talking about another Russell Wilson-like quarterback, but Crist is still an intriguing option for a team that could be a quarterback away from competing for another Rose Bowl berth next season.
