It's College Colors day on the UW-Madison campus, which means we should be seeing a lot of cardinal and white around town. I already saw some fans donning their Badger gear a day early on my short walk to Memorial Library this morning. As for the upperclassmen, most of whom have figured out how to avoid scheduling Friday classes by now, we'll anxiously await their appearances, which probably will take place sometime this afternoon. Check out the first Badger Bits link for more information on College Colors Day.
The Scott Tolzien era is merely a day away and tomorrow we'll finally see whether Bret Bielema and his staff knew what they were doing when they awarded the starting quarterback job to the one guy no one thought would get it. Curt Phillips is expected to get some playing time as well, which means the competition may very well not be over. I think this is a good move, given the circumstances, as I feel the Badgers unnecessarily committed themselves to Allan Evridge last year when he clearly was not the answer. Look, obviously any team would rather have one reliable starter who separates himself from the rest of the pack. But if that isn't the case, and it certainly isn't for Wisconsin this season, there is no rule that says you have to show 100% faith in a guy about whom you aren't sure. Let the quarterbacks' game play during a soft non-conference schedule dictate Big Ten playing time. No problem with that.
