Badger Bits: Vander Blue still committed to Wisconsin

Rumors that Vander Blue had backed out of his commitment to the UW men's basketball team are false, according to this story in The Capital Times.

Last week, the rumor spread like wildfire on Wisconsin message boards, but according to the story, Blue talked to the UW coaching staff after last week's loss to Minnesota and remains committed to the program.

Still, the words, "I'm cool. I'm in," don't exactly make me feel comfortable.

Blue is a junior guard at Madison Memorial.

  • Former UW goaltender Brian Elliott was called up to the Ottawa Senators recently and is off to a great start. In four starts he is 2-1-1 with a 2.23 goals against average and a .921 save percentage. Andy Baggot of the Wisconsin State Journal took a look at "Goaltender U" over the weekend.
  • My buddy Ben Voekel has the details on Devin Harris' new girlfriend, Meghan Allen. Bold strategy D-Ha, let's see if it pays off.
  • Wisconsin will not play Texas next season in football because neither team wanted to lose a seventh home game. The two schools and ESPN had been in talks about a home-and-home series starting next season. Both Texas and Wisconsin are looking to add a game to their schedule. Meanwhile, Arizona State is reportedly looking to change the dates of their 2010/2012 home-and-home with the Badgers.
  • Finally, the game was ugly, but the ratings were great. The Champs Sports Bowl was the second highest rated non-BCS bowl game this season, trailing only the Capital One Bowl. It was also the second highest rated bowl game in ESPN's history, earning a 5.2 share (5.09 millions households).
