UPDATE, 12:11 p.m. Sunday: As others have pointed out in the comments below, Wisconsin has yet to accept Sturghill's commitment. The staff would like to get him on campus first, and that's expected to happen the weekend of Jan. 31. Sturghill could still very well be the Badgers' first cornerback commit for 2014; it just might take a bit longer than initially expected.

In the midst of Saturday's riveting Big Ten basketball clash with Michigan, Wisconsin received some welcome news. Three-star Memphis, Tenn., athlete Cornelius Sturghill committed to the Badgers via Instagram (UPDATE: the post and associated tweets have since been taken down). As UW's 25th commit for 2014, it's expected that Sturghill will begin at cornerback.
The 5'10, 170-pound Sturghill chose Wisconsin over offers from UCLA, Vanderbilt, Western Kentucky and more. His commitment, which is credited to defensive line coach Chad Kauha'aha'a, boosts UW's 2014 class to third in the Big Ten and No. 30 overall, according to 247 Sports' composite rankings. Sturghill is expected to make his official visit to Madison Jan. 31.
Sturghill is Wisconsin's first cornerback commit for 2014, and he could potentially push for early playing time behind Sojourn Shelton and Peniel Jean. The Badgers certainly need the help there after Jakarrie Washington was dismissed from the program in December.
