Despite making his best effort to lobby the coaching staff into playing, Nic Kerdiles won't be in the lineup Friday night when Wisconsin hits the ice vs. Michigan at Yost Ice Arena.
#Badgers won't have Nic Kerdiles (shoulder) in the lineup for its Big Ten series opener with Michigan.— Andy Baggot (@AndyBaggotWSJ) January 31, 2014
Kerdiles separated his shoulder Jan. 4 when he crashed into the boards awkwardly in a game vs. Alaska-Anchorage. The Irvine, Calif., native missed the series vs. Michigan the following weekend as well as the games last weekend vs. Ohio State.
Friday's game will be the eighth full game Kerdiles has missed this season. In addition to the previous four he missed with the shoulder injury, Kerdiles also sat out three games while he was in Sweden for the World Junior Championships with Team USA.
While the Badgers are 5-2 in games without Kerdiles this season, the power play has been irrelevant during his absence. In the 7 1/2 games Kerdiles has missed, the Badgers are just 3-for-32 on the power play (9.38 percent).
Wisconsin will also be without the services of senior winger Tyler Barnes, who was shaken up Saturdy after a vicious collision with the end boards in front of the student section at the Kohl Center. Without Kerdiles and Barnes, the Badgers roll out a lineup minus two of their top three goal scorers.
