USA Hockey announced the final roster for the 2014 women's Olympic hockey team during the Winter Classic in Ann Arbor, Mich., Wednesday. Four former Badgers will be representing the United States in Sochi.
Hilary Knight, Jessie Vetter, Meghan Duggan and Brianna Decker have made the club and were introduced to the crowd at the Big House on New Year's Day. The event, in which Duggan was named team captain, was televised on NBC.
One player who won't be going to Russia is Anne Pankowski, who had been training and playing with the U.S. women's national team all season. Pankowski was originally expected to be a freshman at Wisconsin this season before being named to the preliminary U.S. roster over the summer.
Pankowski was one of the last players cut by head coach Katey Stone, and she will spend the rest of the season training from home. UW head coach Mark Johnson told the Wisconsin State Journal Wednesday that she will not be coming to Madison until next fall.
Duggan, Vetter and Knight each won Olympic medals as part of Team USA at the 2010 Olympics. There, the U.S. won a silver medal in Vancouver.
