The United States got the fast start they were looking for as they open up pool play with a blowout victory over Germany.

Regardless of your opponent, a quick start is always the goal in every game. Team USA accomplished that Thursday morning against Germany, scoring just 19 seconds into the contest on a goal by Sean Kuraly (Miami University).

USA would ride the momentum of the Kuraly goal all the way to an 8-0 victory over the German's in the opening game of the 2013 World Junior Championships in Ufa, Russia.

The U.S. squad received goals from eight different players in the opener, and goaltenders John Gibson (Kitchener, OHL), and John Gillies (Providence) combined for the shutout between the pipes.

Wisconsin's Jake McCabe (Eau Claire, Wis.) as usual was a steady, two-way force for the red, white, and blue on Thursday. Named Team USA's captain, McCabe finished the game with a +1 rating, while putting five shots on goal. McCabe was also whistled for two ticky-tacky penalties in the victory.

Milwaukee, Wis. born Alex Galchenyuk (Sarnia, OHL) was named Team USA's player of the game vs Germany. The third overall pick in the 2012 draft by the Montreal Canadiens, Galchenyuk finished the opener with a goal and two assists.

Team USA will look to keep their momentum moving forward Friday morning, as they face the host team Russia at 8 a.m. central time. Game will be shown live on the NHL Network, and also streamed live on NHL.com.

NOTES: Local bar (Dooley's Pub) in McCabe's hometown of Eau Claire, Wis. opened up at 8 a.m on Thursday morning so that local patrons could come together to watch Team USA captain, and local hockey hero McCabe represent his country.
