Sam Dekker day-to-day with lower-leg injury

14

Per several media reports, Wisconsin star forward Sam Dekker suffered a lower-leg injury in practice on Friday. According to Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Dekker suffered the injury during the period of practice open to reporters. He hobbled off the court with help from trainer Henry Perez-Guerra; Zack Miller of BadgerBlitz.com says Dekker wasn't putting any pressure on his left foot.

The official word from UW is that Dekker is day-to-day with a lower-leg injury. That seems to indicate the severity isn't extreme, though it also seems likely that Dekker won't participate in UW's Red/White Scrimmage on Sunday. That will tipoff at 1 p.m.

Fans don't need a reminder of Dekker's importance to this year's Badgers team; after averaging 12.4 points per game as a sophomore, Dekker joined teammate Frank Kaminsky on the preseason All-Big Ten team released by the conference last week.

UPDATED: Diamond Stone will visit Wisconsin, UConn; decision date uncertain

9

UPDATE: ESPN's Reggie Rankin tweets that Bob Stone disputed any report citing Nov. 12 as a definite decision date for his son. At this point, nothing is set in, well, stone.

Whitefish Bay Dominican's Diamond Stone, the No. 1 center in the 2015 class, intends to make two more official visits before making his college choice, according to Mark Miller. Those visits will be to Wisconsin and UConn, perceived by some to be the front runners.

Stone will be in Madison this weekend for homecoming weekend featuring a football game vs. Maryland and Sunday's annual Red/White Scrimmage. With two weekends free before the early signing period in November, Stone has not announced dates for his UConn visit. If he does make an early decision, he may try to visit Storrs over Halloween weekend because the Huskies do not host a football game the following week.

Duke was recently cut from Stone's list of finalists, which also includes Maryland and Oklahoma State.

Wisconsin target PF Josh Sharma commits to Stanford

19

Wisconsin was in the Josh Sharma race for a while, but Stanford has ultimately won out for the four-star Northfield, Mass., power forward. The 6'11, 215-pound Sharma named UW his favorite back in January, and the Badgers made multiple in-home visits to Northfield over the subsequent months. Stanford had offered back in August 2013, however, and two visits to Palo Alto eventually sealed the deal.

Those seeking a silver lining can say at least Wisconsin was a perceived finalist for a while. Frustrated Badgers fans will likely say this is another example of starting fast, but not finishing from a UW coaching staff. Both are accurate and show that for all the work UW programs have done in attracting increasingly impressive talent, there are always newer frontiers to be reached.
