Dan Voltz injury: Wisconsin center tweaks hamstring in practice [UPDATED]

Wisconsin's offensive line will face an even more daunting transition to 2013 if center Dan Voltz is out for an extended period of time. - Jeff Hanisch-US PRESSWIRE

According to multiple reports, Wisconsin's redshirt freshman center suffered a hamstring injury of unknown severity at practice Wednesday.

UPDATE -- Thursday, 1:31 p.m.: Jeff Potrykus adds quotes from Andersen, who says seven days for Voltz's return is the high end, and that he probably won't play in Monday's scrimmage.

"Good news today," UW coach Gary Andersen said after practice Thursday morning. "I don't think it is going to be an extended period of time but I am going to be very cautious with him."

UPDATE -- Thursday, 11:57 a.m.: Turns out Voltz's injury is indeed on the minor end:

With Voltz out, look for Dallas Lewallen to get the majority of the snaps at center. Zac Matthias has also been snapping a bit, though he'll take over Lewallen's left guard spot as long as Voltz is out.

Wisconsin center Dan Voltz suffered a right-hamstring injury in the first of two practices Wednesday, according to multiple reports. Voltz, a redshirt freshman, is the presumed starter for the Badgers this season.

Offensive line coach T.J. Woods told reporters afterward that he was unsure of the severity. In Voltz's place, left guard Dallas Lewallen moved over to center and reserve right guard Zac Matthias took over his spot.

For what it's worth, Ryan Voltz, presumably a close relative of Dan, tweeted to Jeff Potrykus of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel that the hamstring "has been a little sore."

Potrykus also has more insight from Woods, who doesn't appear too worried.

"I don't think it will be too bad," offensive line coach T.J. Woods said after practice. "I think it is a tweak. We'll see.

"He still got to go in and check it out."

Again, we're unsure of the severity of the injury. We'll update right here and on Twitter @B5Q as soon as we know more.
