The Chicago Tribune's Teddy Greenstein does a series of columns on sports celebrities after golfing 18 holes with them (great gig, huh?). This week he golfed with Bo Ryan and Bret Bielema in Madison, which obviously produced a great piece.

Bielema's contract extended through 2016

+

No surprise here. Bret Bielema's rolling five-year contract was extended through 2016. Bielema has received the one-year extension after each of his five seasons as UW head coach. If anything, it's news that he did not receive a longer extension following a Rose Bowl appearance.

Bielema back on Twitter, announces announcement of new hire

+

The Twitter world missed you, Bret! UW head coach Bret Bielema was back on Twitter Wednesday morning for the first time since Oct. 2 and there was actually some juicy content (well, as juicy as it can get in early March.) After mentioning that all of his players were on-time to a 6 a.m. workout this morning, Bielema added: "Over the last few I have interviewed several great canidates for our last position on our staff... Hope to announce him over weekend.. " It's unclear what kind of hire he will be making, but it has been widely speculated that Bielema will give up his special teams duties and hire a new special teams coach. East's Mason could play football and basketball at UW

+

We haven't seen it since Bo Ryan took over the UW men's basketball program in 2001, but a football recruit could end up playing in both Camp Randall Stadium and the Kohl Center. According to the Capital Times, Madison East's Marquis Mason has given the Badgers an oral commitment to play football after Bret Bielema told the 6-5, 218 pound wide receiver he could try out for the basketball team as well. Mason, who has scholarship offers from UW-Milwaukee and UW-Green Bay to play basketball, becomes the second oral commitment of the 2010 recruiting class. Check out the Cap Times story for more details.
