Badgers' Montee Ball injured in attack in Madison

Police in Madison, Wisconsin released information that star Badgers running back Montee Ball was injured in an "unprovoked assault" early this morning, around 2:15 AM local time. This was first tweeted by CBS Sports' Bruce Feldman and was later picked up by Adam Rittenberg over at ESPN. Ball suffered a concussion and facial injuries when he was jumped by five unknown assailants, who, according to witnesses, knocked him down and kicked him repeatedly in the head. A team spokesman said that Ball spent two hours in the hospital before his release. A police spokesman later stated that they were still unsure as to the reasoning behind the attack. Ball took to Twitter this afternoon, expressing to his fans that he was "okay" and he would "see you in September!" It's unclear whether his injuries will cause him to miss any time on the field, but Wisconsin's Bret Bielema stated that his "concern right now is for (Ball's) health and well-being," adding that he does "expect Montee to make a full recovery." While we're all Ohio State fans and we probably hope that Ball doesn't have the kind of game he had last year against our Buckeyes, I think I am speaking for all the members of this blog when I say I wish Ball nothing but the best and hope for a speedy recovery. These kind of stories are always difficult to swallow, and they remind us that athletes are not infallible and are subject to random acts of violence.

QB Danny Obrien chooses the Badgers

Looks like another transfer QB taking over at Wisconsin this year. Only this time he has two years to play. I live in Maryland and I've watched him play a lot of games. He is a solid passer but does throw into coverage a lot.

Iowa and Wisconsin in separate divisions

"Rivals Wisconsin and Iowa will be placed in different divisions when the plan is announced, Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez told the Wisconsin State Journal on Wednesday. Alvarez also said the Big Ten will adopt a nine-game conference schedule beginning in 2015. "

Sources confirm UIC will hire UW assistant Howard Moore

Big blow to Wisconsin's recruiting in Chicago. Bo Ryan will have to find a good replacement to take over that area. May I suggest former Badger Tracy Webster? He just took an assistant job at Nebraska, but it would be hard to pass up an offer to return to Madison and recruit his hometown area of Chicago for the Badgers.

Is Home-Court Advantage Really About the Ball?

This is a blog post by former Notre Dame player Zach Hillesland discussing the impact of the numerous brands of basketballs used by college basketball teams. Note that Wisconsin is prominently featured because we are the only team in America to use a Sterling basketball. This could explain our poor shooting in Indianapolis. However, it doesn't explain Illinois and Wisconsin both beating the other on the road.
