An Early Thank You

For those who don't know, I will be leaving B5Q in March to take over as the beat reporter at Badger Blitz on the Rivals network. Tom Lea is moving on to bigger and better things at ESPN Wisconsin, and I was fortunate enough receive a job offer from Jon McNamera last month.

Normally this would be the time where I get all sappy about how much everyone who works with or reads B5Q has meant to me, but I'm not going anywhere just yet. There will be time for that later, I promise. I'm finishing out the basketball regular season here, and then the move takes place on March 5th.

So for now I have a whole month left on the beat, and I'll get off my soapbox and get back to work.

Frank Kaminsky scored his 50th point of the season Tuesday against Penn State, making him just the 13th freshman to do so under Bo Ryan. The other 12 have, for the most part, been pretty important to the Wisconsin program.

Jordan Diamond is the #94 ranked recruit over at ESPN and the #1 ranked recruit in the state of Illinois and has Wisconsin in his final four schools. He will be making his official visit to Madison today, and if you have insider you can read that he says a lot of positive things about Wisconsin and it appears that the Badgers may be the front runners to land him.

Statement from Wisconsin Director of Athletics Barry Alvarez:
"Today is a sad day. Joe made a difference. He impacted a lot of people. He made a difference in a community, in a college and in college football. He was truly special and an icon. For someone to continue to do what he did through different generations and for such a long period of time and be effective was amazing. I've considered Joe a friend and a mentor. This is sad day for college football and the Penn State community. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them and the Paterno family."

Statement from Wisconsin head football coach Bret Bielema:
"Coach Paterno obviously did so many wonderful things for a number of years, not only with the success of his teams on the field but the number of lives he shaped. I hope people remember his lifetime achievements. From day one, when I joined the head coaching ranks and was fortunate enough to cross paths with him at coaches meetings and various functions, he was always very engaging and complimentary of the way we did things at Wisconsin and how we played. I enjoyed competing with him at every level. Our Badger football family sends our condolences and deepest sympathies to the Penn State community and the Paterno family."

Report: Bostad leaving Pitt already to join Bears

My radio station, 670 The Score in Chicago, is reporting that former UW offensive line coach Bob Bostad is leaving Pitt already to become the offensive line coach for the Chicago Bears.

Considering Bostad left Wisconsin just a few weeks ago to join Paul Chryst at Pitt, I think this qualifies as a shocker.

UPDATE: A Bears source assured me that this move is not a done deal, but a Badgers source says not to rule it out despite Bostad's loyalty to Chryst. My updated story.
