Decommitted from Louisville
Garfield Heights has been a popular high school for Wisconsin to mine for talent, from Rob Wilson to UW's pursuit of Hughes' teammate Willie Jackson in this same class. Hughes has generated a bit of late buzz, with the Badgers becoming the third Big Ten program to offer him a scholarship in early August. He also earned an offer from Florida State in March, to go along with most of the MAC. Hughes planned to visit Minnesota on Sept. 25, but reportedly canceled that visit after the Gophers took some other commitments. Yet the Gophers picked up a Crystal Ball pick from a prominent Ohio scout even after the canceled visit. Even more intriguing, Hughes had schools like Louisville, Michigan State, Tennessee and VCU sniffing around as the cycle winds down.
The lanky Hughes can really shoot and plays with lots of confidence. He is listed by all recruiting services as a shooting guard, though Wisconsin appeared to be hedging its bets with Payton Pritchard and JaQuori McLaughlin at point guard with this offer. The staff visited Hughes shortly after McLaughlin's commitment at the end of September. Hughes stated initially that he'd make a decision on October 13, likely between St. Joseph's, Texas A&M and Wisconsin. However, considering Louisville also had a mysterious meeting with Hughes and Miami (FL) has raised its interest, Hughes' high school coach indicated that Hughes would hold off on a commitment for now.
